Join us for a workshop on research and knowledge exchange initiatives and the launch of a new History of Highland Hospitals audio trail.

Bringing together researchers and students at the University of the Highlands and Islands, practitioners and the public, the aim of this event is twofold:

  • A future-facing workshop and discussions bringing together scholars across UHI who are engaged with health themes from an arts, humanities and/or social sciences perspective, connecting them with businesses and the public to facilitate research and knowledge exchange possibilities.
  • To celebrate the launch of the History of Highland Hospitals audio trail, as means of promoting Highland medical heritage to new audiences, who may have little understanding of this rich history. This initiative was developed in a collaboration with the Centre for Recreation and Tourism Research through a grant from the UHI’s Tourism Knowledge Exchange sector group’s challenge fund.

The research behind this initiative links UHI staff with Steve and Jim Leslie who have researched the history of Highland hospitals. Steve and Jim’s work on the trail is the latest chapter in a connection with UHI which goes back to 2008 via an NHS Highland Endowment fund grant hosted by the UHI Centre for History.
