What is special about this course?

Would you enjoy bringing history and culture to life for different audiences? Do you want to explore how museums care for, interpret, and share artefacts with the public?

Our CPD Displaying the Past: Museum Studies (SCQF level 8) introduces you to the exciting realities of working with collections, artefacts, and audiences in modern museums.  Learn how museums care for, research, and present objects in ways that inspire curiosity and encourage public engagement. Explore the ethical questions behind collecting and displaying artefacts, and develop the confidence to make informed decisions about their use and interpretation.

Build practical skills in registration, numbering, classification, and indexing systems used across the museum sector. Plan and organise suitable storage for collections, then research and create labels and graphic displays that bring objects to life for visitors.

Discover how museums can become more inclusive and accessible spaces by developing strategies that support disabled visitors, visually impaired audiences, and people with learning difficulties. Throughout the module, you will place audiences at the centre of your work while gaining insight into the professional practices that shape museums today.
