What is special about this course?

This Teaching in Colleges Today (SCQF level 7) CPD Award is aimed at: newly employed lecturers; college staff who are involved in teaching and assessing college students, but do not hold a recognised teaching qualification; and final year degree and postgraduate students, who may wish to move into a career in Further Education.

By starting this course as soon as you begin your college role, you will have the opportunity to quickly develop the knowledge and skills needed to be able to effectively plan and deliver learning, teaching, and assessment for your students. This will complement any in-house induction and orientation process and give you a solid foundation with which to pursue your teaching career.

This online learning unit can be taken by anyone, however it should be noted that you can only be formally assessed and gain accreditation of learning by College Development Network (CDN) if you are a college lecturer in Scotland.

Entry requirements

• You should be employed as a college lecturer, or as college staff involved in teaching and assessing college students, but without a recognised teaching qualification
• You must be nominated by your line manager and/or staff learning and development departments to undertake this award
• Eligible applicants who have studied up to and including SCQF level 6 will be suited to this level 7 course
• Eligible applicants who have studied up to and including SCQF level 7 should apply to Teaching in Colleges Today (SCQF level 8) CPD Award
• Final year degree or postgraduate students looking to move into a career in Further Education will not be able to complete the summative assessments and gain a CDN certificate, but you may still be accepted onto the course in order to work through the online learning materials, developing skills and understanding of these important topics. In these instances, you will receive a certificate of success from your chosen campus
