Berneray BardachdIs there something in the air in Berneray? Here’s another new blog from the same island – “Pàdruig’s Woven Words” – from Peter Kerr this time. Peter writes poetry and prose, and takes beautiful pictures, and has started publishing them on his “Berneray Bàrdachd” WordPress site.

Whale SongAnd now he’s gone a step further still. In this “Whale Song” post we can hear him reading aloud a piece he wrote reflecting on a recent experience.

Check out this new Island Voice!

And remember, there’s room for many more!

Puirt-à-BeulSeo pìos inntinneach a thèid leis an naidheachd mun leabhar “Puirt-à-Beul” a thàinig a-mach as ùr o chionn treiseag. From the Water's EdgeBerneray resident Loriana Pauli has created a marvellous multimedia and multilingual blog – “From the Water’s Edge”. It’s a lovely collection of thoughts and questions, poems and pictures.

Loriana also brings humour into her work. “Oh, dear! What can the machair be?” is a title that demands closer investigation – investigation that is rewarded with both educative text and stunning photographs.

Machair flowersAnd her blog includes speech as well as writing. Loriana, among many other skills, has a unique interviewing style, and has already recorded illuminating conversations with Pauline Prior-Pitt of the Uist Writers’ Group, and with the co-ordinators of both Caraidean Uibhist (The Uist Befriending Group) and Guthan nan Eilean.

We look forward to hearing many more “Island Voices” on this blog!

VolkerCò an duine snog còir sin a tha ag obair aig Bùth Niallaidh? Duine às a’ Ghearmailt aig a bheil a’ Bheurla cho math, agus a tha ag ionnsachadh na Gàidhlig a-nist? Cò ach Volker! Cha mhòr nach bi a h-uile duine ann an Uibhist eòlach air mar-thà. Ach ’s cinnteach nach bi fios aig mòran dè an cur-seachad sònraichte a th’ aige…

Tha Volker air a bhith a’ tighinn dha na coinneamhan sa choimhearsnachd air Guthan nan Eilean leis gu bheil ùidh aige an dà chuid ann an cànain Uibhist agus ann an obair “air-loidhne”. Carson? O chionn ’s gur toil leis a bhith a’ dèanamh modalan beaga bìodach, agus a’ taisbeanadh a chuid obrach air an làrach aige fheìn.

Agus tha agallamh leis a-nis ri leughadh an seo. Tha Volker fhathast ag ionnsachadh na Gàidhlig. Mar sin, ’s ann sa Bheurla a tha an t-agallamh seo. Ach, cò aige tha fios, an ceann mìos no dhà ’s dòcha gum bi e a’ sgrìobhadh sa Ghàidhlig cuideachd?

Co-dhiù, mar a chì sibh, tha ceist aige airson muinntir Uibhist. Siuthadaibh, dè bhur beachdan?
