What is special about this course?

The HNC Beauty Therapy will enable you to develop the skills and competencies required in the professional practice of beauty therapy.

You will learn advanced therapy skills, management skills, and develop the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of therapy treatments.

You may also have the opportunity to participate in local events with students from other university campuses.

Entry requirements

  • 1 Scottish Higher at grade C or above or
  • 1 A Level at grade D or above
  • Preferably in English or a science related subject, plus
  • 3 Standard grades with a 1,2 or 3 for a level 6 programme, or equivalent
  • Alternatively, NC Beauty Care, or SVQ3 Beauty Therapy
  • Prospective students without the standard entry requirements are encouraged to apply and will be considered on an individual basis

Year 1 - HNC

Mandatory units are:

  • Anatomy and physiology for beauty and complementary therapists
  • Management and practices of body therapies
  • Management and practices of facial therapies
  • Employment experience 1
  • Beauty therapy: graded unit 1

Optional subjects may include:

  • Aromatherapy
  • Reflexology
  • Principles and practices of selling
  • Body massage
  • Beauty therapy: contemporary aesthetic treatments
  • Beauty therapy: depilation
  • Beauty therapy: electrical epilation
  • Beauty therapy: facial treatments
  • Beauty therapy: product knowledge
  • Spa treatments 1
  • Lifestyle advice for clients
  • Beauty therapy: hand and foot therapy
  • Beauty therapy: face and body electrotherapy

Fees are payable in advance each academic year unless otherwise agreed.

On successful completion you will have the skills needed to work in beauty therapy in salons, hotels, cruise ships and other venues.
