Advance HE Fellowships through ALPINE are available to all university colleagues working at SCQF level 7 and above. This includes individuals in roles that support learning and teaching, as well as those in leadership positions focused on higher education. Eligible participants include academic staff with teaching responsibilities, staff who support learning and teaching, postgraduate students with teaching and student support responsibilities, and employed student officers of HISA (Highlands and Islands Students Association) who are involved in relevant activities.

ALPINE (Accredited Learning, Professional Development, and Innovation in Education) is the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) institutional scheme designed for the professional recognition of staff involved in supporting or leading learning and teaching. ALPINE provides opportunities for professional recognition that reflect the tertiary context in which the university operates. It celebrates the essential roles that positively impact student outcomes and experiences in both Further and Higher Education.

Dr Lind submitted an extensive portfolio of his curriculum development and pedagogical practices. This comprehensive document highlighted his innovative and engaging teaching, illustrating how he captivates students and inspires critical thinking. His commitment to excellence in education is further evidenced by his nomination for a prestigious HISA award last year, recognising his outstanding contributions to the care and teaching of students. Through interactive workshops and dynamic research projects, Dr Lind consistently fosters an environment of active learning and collaboration. Dr Lind stated:

“The past couple of years have been very busy, particularly with the creation of the Early Modern European Studies MLitt program in collaboration with other departments and centres within UHI. I am thrilled to have been awarded an Advance HE Senior Fellowship through the UHI ALPINE scheme. This scheme highlights UHI’s commitment, along with the Institute for Northern Studies, to the professional development of its staff. I encourage all eligible staff to consider this scheme when planning their continuing professional development (CPD). I’d like to thank UHI’s Learning and Teaching Team, especially Wendy Jessiman, for all their help, guidance and support. It has provided me with an invaluable opportunity for reflection on my practice and how I can best support colleagues in delivering high-quality research-led teaching.”

Professor Alexandra Sanmark, Acting Director, UHI Institute for Northern Studies, added:

“I am delighted that Dr Lind has been recognised with the UHI ALPINE Advance HE Senior Fellowship. Dr Lind’s efforts and impactful contributions have not only enriched our academic community but have also advanced our understanding of the early modern era. It is a remarkable achievement and a reflection of his dedication to teaching and research at the UHI Institute for Northern Studies.”
