Here is a checklist of things to help you prepare for your MRes or PhD programme.

While the list is not exhaustive, we hope it will help you get started.

Priority: 

  • Find accommodation if you don't already have a place to stay 
  • Contact your supervisor and arrange a date and time for your first meeting 
  • Enrol - you should have received a separate email regarding enrolment
  • Set up Microsoft Multi Factor Authentication
  • Organise your student ID (digital and physical)

Other things to consider: 

  • Learn about Research at UHI
  • Make sure your vaccinations are up to date
  • Let us know if you have a disability so we can support you
  • Visit HISA to find Welcome events.

 

International students:

  • Make sure you have completed enrolment – you will have received an email from Student Records.  
  • Set up and secure your account. You will be contacted primarily through your UHI student email account by the Graduate School and other relevant UHI services.  Regularly check your student email for key updates. 
  • Meet your Director of Studies using the checklist as a guide to discussion, including organising a local induction at your Academic Partner.
  • Confirm your attendance at the UHI PGR Student Induction held at UHI Inverness or online. You will receive an email about the event and how to register. 
  • Explore PGR Manager – the place you undertake your progress reviews, submit changes to registration and note your supervisory meetings.  
  • Log on to Brightspace and check to see if the Ethics module has been added to your courses – please contact the Graduate School if not.  

International:  

  • Pay your tuition fees – contact the Finance Office of your local Academic Partner. 

In the first few weeks of study 

  • Meet your supervisory team 
  • Attend your induction/s 
  • Sign up to available training
