Derek Bond

Derek is part of UHI’s senior executive team where he leads the university's financial strategy and stewardship, supporting long-term sustainability and the delivery of UHI's strategic ambitions across its partnership.

Before joining the university, Derek served as Vice-Principal Resources and Enterprise (Chief Financial Officer) at UHI North, West and Hebrides. During a period of significant organisational change, he played a key role in strengthening financial sustainability, leading income generation initiatives, supporting organisational transformation, and driving economic development. He also helped deliver the financial integration of the merged college, established and implemented a financial recovery plan, and led strategic work across estates, infrastructure, digital services and organisational development.

Derek brings extensive experience in strategic financial leadership, governance and organisational transformation. His collaborative approach and deep understanding of the UHI partnership support the university's mission to deliver high-quality education, research and opportunities for students, staff and communities across the Highlands and Islands, Moray and Perthshire.
