This project seeks to identify the key challenges faced by speakers of minoritised languages, both officially recognised and unrecognised, and to support their protection, everyday use, and long-term promotion.

If you speak Scottish Gaelic, Scots, and/or Shaetlan, we warmly encourage you to share your experiences, knowledge, and perspectives. Your input will play a vital role in helping us better understand and sustain Scotland’s rich linguistic diversity.

Participation in the survey is entirely voluntary and anonymous. You may withdraw at any time, and there are no compulsory questions.

The Scotland survey is currently available in:

Additional surveys will be launched soon to explore the situation of minoritised languages in Ireland, Poland, Slovenia, and the Basque Country.

The findings from this research will contribute to the development of a linguistic capital roadmap, aimed at reversing language decline and strengthening linguistic diversity across Europe.

This survey has been developed as part of the EU-funded FOSTERLANG project (Fostering Linguistic Capital: A Roadmap for Reversing the Diversity Crisis and Activating Societal Benefits in Europe).
