The appointment follows an open recruitment process undertaken by the university in its role as the Regional Strategic Body, following the resignation of interim chair Alistair Wylie in April.

The university has also expressed its sincere thanks to Mr Wylie for his dedicated service to UHI Perth and the wider Perth and Kinross region during a critical period for the college.

Justine brings significant governance, leadership and board-level experience to the role. A qualified solicitor and business consultant, she has held a range of senior non-executive positions, including joint interim chair of Scottish Women’s Football, non-executive director and co-owner of Dundee United Football Club, and chair of the Marie Curie Edinburgh Brain Game Committee.

Her appointment comes as UHI Perth enters a new phase of stability, growth and opportunity, building on progress made through the college’s financial recovery plan and wider transformational change programme.

Catherine Etri, Interim Principal and Chief Executive of UHI Perth, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Justine Mitchell as the new chair of the board of UHI Perth. Justine brings a wealth of experience across governance, business and community leadership, and her appointment marks an important milestone for the college.

“UHI Perth has made significant progress over the past year, and we are entering a new phase focused on strengthening the student experience, supporting staff and delivering long-term sustainability. I look forward to working closely with Justine as we continue to build confidence, stability and ambition across the institution.

“I would also like to place on record our sincere thanks to Alistair Wylie for his commitment, leadership and support during a period of significant change for the college.”

Alastair MacColl, UHI Chair of Court, said:

“Justine was an outstanding candidate in a strong field, and I am very pleased to welcome her as the new chair of the board of UHI Perth.

“She brings extensive board-level experience, strong commercial and financial expertise, and a clear commitment to community-focused leadership. These qualities will be invaluable as UHI Perth continues its positive trajectory and looks ahead to future opportunities for growth and development.

“I would also like to thank Alistair Wylie for his dedicated service and invaluable contribution to UHI Perth and the wider partnership during an important period of transition.”

Justine added:

“I am honoured to be appointed chair of the board of UHI Perth at such an important time. UHI Perth plays a vital role in supporting learners, communities and employers across Perth and Kinross and beyond, and I am excited to work with colleagues, students and partners to help shape its future.

“There is a strong sense of momentum at the college, and I look forward to supporting continued progress, innovation and opportunity for everyone connected with UHI Perth.”
