Held at UHI House in Inverness, the event highlighted how scholarships, bursaries and awards are helping students overcome barriers, achieve their ambitions and contribute to the future prosperity of communities across the Highlands and Islands, Moray and Perthshire.

Vicki Nairn, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of UHI, welcomed attendees and reflected on the importance of philanthropy and the real difference it makes to both the university and the lives of learners and their families.

Throughout the evening, students and alumni shared personal stories illustrating the lasting impact donor support has had on their education, confidence and future aspirations. Their experiences demonstrated how philanthropy not only provides financial assistance, but also creates opportunities and helps retain talent within the region.

A video message was shared from Kyle Fraser, a computer science student at UHI Inverness and recipient of an entrance scholarship. He said:

“Receiving a scholarship has been a huge encouragement to me both financially and personally. It’s helped me access tools and resources that I wouldn’t have been able to buy otherwise, and that support has given me the confidence to take on projects outside of the course and develop my skills further.

“More than that, it’s made me feel seen and valued and I’m genuinely grateful for the generosity behind it. It’s motivated me to work hard and make the most of the opportunity I’ve been given.”

The programme also featured presentations from Stephanie Strother, Advancement Manager at UHI, and Jessie MacKintosh, a UHI Alumni Ambassador, who spoke about her own student journey and the impact the support she received had on her confidence and future opportunities.

Following a networking session, Euan Hogg, Development Project Manager at RES, shared a donor perspective on the importance of investing in education, talent and regional development. He said:

“Partnering with UHI is a direct investment in a sustainable future for the region. By helping to remove financial barriers through the Student Development Fund, we can keep vital talent local and ensure the next generation has the best chance of achieving their full potential.”

In closing the event, Stephen Sheridan, Director of Economic Development and Advancement at UHI, thanked supporters for their continued commitment to the university and highlighted the importance of continued collaboration in supporting students and communities across the region. Stephen said:

“It was fantastic to bring together our staff, students, alumni and donors and to see first-hand the difference we are collectively making. Thank you to everyone who continues to support UHI. Your generosity is unlocking opportunities and building confidence in our learners, as well as helping to strengthen our communities across the region.”
