UHI pays tribute to Honorary Fellow Lord Mackay of Clashfern
The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is saddened to learn of the death of Honorary Fellow Lord James Mackay of Clashfern, who has died at the age of 99.
Lord Mackay, one of Scotland's most distinguished legal figures, served as Lord Chancellor from 1987 to 1997 after holding a number of senior judicial and legal appointments, including Lord Advocate.

He was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by UHI Millennium Institute (now the University of the Highlands and Islands) in 2007 in recognition of his outstanding contribution to public life and the legal profession. As patron of the University of the Highlands and Islands Development Trust, Lord Mackay played an important role in supporting UHI during its formative years and its journey towards university title.
The thoughts of everyone at UHI are with Lord Mackay's family and friends at this sad time.
