Centre for History staff give talks at annual SACHA gathering
Both academics have recently used archives extensively in their research projects
Our Dr Philippa Woodcock and Dr Juliette Desportes were recently invited to speak at the annual gathering of the Scottish Association of Country House Archivists (SACHA) that took place at the Brucefield Estate.
Both gave talks about their use of estate records to research under-explored and, in Philippa's case particularly, emotionally complex topics - miscarriage and rural protest.
The event was a great opportunity to connect with archivists working across Scotland, find out more about their collections, and reflect on potential future collaborations.

Dr Woodcock's project, ”They wept together”: Investigating miscarriage, taboo and support in early modern Scotland, is supported by the Royal Historical Society's David Berry Fellowship for the History of Scotland and the Scottish People.
Dr Desportes is part of the research team for The Leverhulme Trust funded project, Landscapes of Protest - Resistance to ‘improvement’ in the Highlands and Islands, with Dr Iain Robertson and Prof Carl Griffin.
