Conchúr Ó Giollagáin

Conchúr Ó Giollagáin directed the IGRP study and is the principal author of this book – the report of the IGRP. He devised the aims, modules and methodology of the project and led the research team in carrying out the fieldwork and organising the data for analysis. Along with Gòrdan Camshron, Pàdruig Moireach and Tamás Péterváry, he co-devised the survey questionnaires. He was involved in all aspects of the data analysis and co-authored the nine chapters with colleagues as indicated below. He also participated along with Iain Caimbeul, Gòrdan Camshron and Pàdruig Moireach in organising and conducting the community and teenager meetings/focus groups. All authors contributed insights to various drafts of the chapters.

Conchúr is the Director of the UHI Language Sciences Institute and the Director of the Soillse sociolinguistic research network. He is the Gaelic Research Professor in the University of the Highlands and Islands, Scotland.

Gòrdan Camshron

Gòrdan Camshron, along with Pàdruig Moireach, was an IGRP fieldworker. He participated in all the field research aspects of the study and, in particular, he gathered and reported the descriptive statistics in Chapter 5 (Community Sociolingustic Survey) and Chapter 6 (Speaker Typology Survey). Along with Pàdruig Moireach and Iain Caimbeul, he took responsibility for presenting and analysing the data in the Appendices.

Gòrdan is a doctoral student of the UHI Language Sciences Institute.

Pàdruig Moireach

Pàdruig Moireach also participated in all the field research aspects of the IGRP and, in particular, he gathered and reported the descriptive statistics in Chapter 3 (Preschool Survey) and Chapter 4 (Teenager Survey).

Pàdruig is on the research staff in the UHI Language Sciences Institute and a part-time Gaelic tutor in Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.

Brian Ó Curnáin

Brian Ó Curnáin also worked on the data analysis of the module findings and he contributed, in particular, to the analysis of cross-tabulations in and between modules (Chapters 2−6). He participated in the copy-editing on drafts of the nine chapters and co-authored Chapters 1 and 7. He contributed to the Gaelic nexus analysis in Chapter 2 and provided additional insights to the chapters.

Brian is an Associate Professor in the School of Celtic Studies, the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies.

Iain Caimbeul

Iain Caimbeul co-authored Chapters 8 and 9 with Conchúr Ó Giollagáin, and contributed amendments to other chapters. He is a co-author of the IGRP’s appendices.

Iain Caimbeul is a Research Fellow in the UHI Language Sciences Institute.

Brian MacDonald

Brian MacDonald managed the statistical data of the various modules and assisted the IGRP team in organising the datasets for presentation and analysis. He participated in the statistical analysis of the findings and prepared the data for display in the dataset tables and figures. He conducted the statistical tests on the correlations between variables and contributed valuable insights on their implications to the other authors. Along with Conchúr Ó Giollagáin and Gòrdan Camshron, he co-authored the descriptive demolinguistic statistics in Chapter 2.

Brian is an affiliate of the Lèirsinn research project based at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.

Tamás Péterváry

Tamás Péterváry assisted with various aspects of the data processing, especially the design of databases for recording the questionnaire responses. Tamás participated in the preparation of the graphs and their analysis.

Tamás is a former Soillse researcher and is now an archaeologist in Veszprém, Hungary, where he directs archaeological excavations and community research projects.
