This two day event explored the notion of assessment and feedback for learning. Involving speakers from within and outside of the university, attendees learned how ro reconfigure their assessment and feedback practices to have a positive impact on student learning.

Peter Hartley is now Higher Education Consultant, and Visiting Professor at Edge Hill University, following previous roles as Professor of Education Development at Bradford and Professor of Communication at Sheffield Hallam. As National Teaching Fellow since 2000, he has promoted new technology in education, including the development of award-winning software. He led influential development projects for HEA and Jisc and was involved in other national initiatives (e.g. CETLs) covering a range of themes, including institutional online and assessment strategies.
Recent/ongoing consultancy includes work on coaching/CPD initiatives, institutional strategies for learning spaces, and assessment (usually involving concepts and approaches from the PASS project on programme-focused assessment). Current interests also include concept mapping and visual thinking, and developments in human communication and online interaction (e.g. second edition of Business Communication, Routledge, 2015; working on third edition of Interpersonal Communication). Recent publications include two co-authored chapters in Advancing Practice in Educational Development (Baume and Popovic, eds, Routledge, 2016) and the latest article on programme-focussed assessment (with Ruth Whitfield): (2018) “Assessment challenges for programme leaders – making the move to programme-focussed assessment”, in Lawrence and Ellis (eds) Supporting programme leaders and programme leadership, SEDA Special 39.
Moira Maguire is Head of Learning and Teaching at Dundalk Institute of Technology. Moira has an undergraduate degree and PhD in Psychology from the Queen's University of Belfast and an MA in Applied and Professional Ethics from the University of Leeds. Before joining DkIT in 2008 she taught Psychology at the University of Westminster and the University of Luton (now Bedfordshire).
She is past President of the All Ireland Society for Higher Education (AISHE) and is editor of the All Ireland Journal for Higher Education. She is actively involved in a number of research and enhancement projects around assessment, academic writing and professional development.
