The university recognised such an arrangement as an important opportunity to benefit from John’s considerable knowledge and understanding at a key point in our ongoing expansion. We therefore approached John and the Scottish Funding Council to discuss possible secondment arrangements.

John has spent many years at the Scottish Funding Council, latterly as Director of Access, Skills and Outcome Agreements. His experience includes, introducing outcome agreements, funding, managing change and delivering Scottish Government priorities for further and higher education. He has detailed knowledge of our university partnership and of our region built up over more than 15 years of engagement with us on behalf of the Scottish Funding Council.

John will use his considerable knowledge of both the further and higher education sectors to support the university to position and promote our tertiary model more effectively to our many stakeholder groups and at sectoral and national levels. He will also continue to assist with internal developments.

John will report to Professor Crichton Lang, interim Vice-Chancellor, and will work under his strategic direction. We expect the secondment to last for two years, although it will be subject to review after one year.
