Lewis businessman appointed as university’s regional lead for further education
Angus Campbell has been appointed to the University of the Highlands and Islands court as regional lead for further education.
In this important governance position, Angus will champion further education within the university both regionally and nationally as one of 13 regional leads based across Scotland.
His role will be to ensure the court fulfils its responsibilities and vision for further education, as part of its remit as regional strategic body for further and higher education, and that resultant strategies and plans are aligned to the skills the region needs.
Alastair MacColl, chair of the university court was delighted to welcome him into this important role: “We are really pleased to welcome Angus to the university court in this role which continues to be vital to ensuring all the colleges in our partnership work together to meet the needs of their respective communities and the wider area.

“Angus is a fitting candidate for the post and has a strong motivation to create opportunities for people to live, work and study in our area. He has a wealth of experience in public service and an appreciation and understanding of what our communities need.”
Angus is a former councillor and leader of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, deputy chair of NatureScot and chair of the independent CalMac Community Board and has represented HIE on the university court since September 2020. He also has a strong connection and commitment to Gaelic.

This is a time of new economic opportunities and real challenges across our area. Our university will play a crucial role in ensuring every individual and community can fully participate in, and benefit from, a relevant and sector-leading further education strategy.
Angus Campbell will take up his appointment on 25 October 2021.
