A partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), HTC is delighted to confirm Dr Grant succeeds the Reverend Hector Morrison, who retired earlier this year after a distinguished period of leadership and service to the institution.

This appointment marks a significant milestone for HTC, signalling a period of both transition and steadfast continuity. As Dr Grant steps into the role, the college reaffirms its core mission: to provide high-quality, theological education to students across Scotland and around the globe.

Dr Grant’s appointment ensures that the unique legacy of HTC remains in ‘safe hands’. Having been a long-standing member of the faculty, Dr Grant deeply understands the college’s ethos of academic excellence integrated with commitment to the church and meaningful engagement with culture.

Dr Grant said:

“It is a slightly daunting honour to be appointed Principal of HTC. Following in Hector’s footsteps is both a challenge and a great privilege. Our purpose remains unchanged: to equip students with the theological tools they need to serve in the various ministries of the church and to reflect on the big questions of life. Whether in the Highlands or through our digital reach across the world, HTC will continue to be a place where meaningful theological reflection is encouraged and where scholarship is pursued with passion.”

Dr Grant brings a wealth of academic experience to the role. A recognised authority in biblical studies, his research and publications have contributed significantly to the international theological landscape. He is particularly well-known for his work on the Psalms and the integration of biblical wisdom literatures into contemporary contexts. His scholarly background ensures that HTC remains at the forefront of theological discourse in Scotland.

The board of governors has expressed their unanimous backing for the new Principal. Dugald MacPherson, the Chair of the board of governors, congratulated Jamie on his appointment:

“We are thrilled that Jamie has accepted this call. His vision for the future, combined with his formidable academic record, makes him the ideal leader to guide HTC into its next chapter. We also wish to express our profound gratitude to Reverend Hector Morrison for his years of visionary leadership, which has placed the college on such a firm footing."

Vicki Nairn, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of UHI, also welcomed the appointment, saying:

“Dr Grant’s appointment reflects the strength and depth of leadership within HTC. His academic distinction, deep commitment to theological education, and clear understanding of HTC’s mission make him exceptionally well placed to lead the college forward. As a founding partner of UHI, HTC plays a vital role in our academic community, and we look forward to continuing our close collaboration under Dr Grant’s leadership.”

HTC is a founding partner of UHI. From its base in Dingwall, it offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes designed to prepare students for ministry and to encourage reflection on human purpose and meaning. Drawing from the Reformed and evangelical tradition, HTC serves a diverse student body through videoconference-based learning, backed by on-campus facilities and resources.
